As an events professional, it isn't often that you meet someone outside the industry that understands the intersections and implications of decisions and deadlines to production. Shayla is that unicorn. She planned at the macro and executed at the micro. I appreciate how mindful she was of the event cycle and deadlines, anticipating the impact of delayed deliverables. And somehow, with all that was on her plate, she found time for the 'discovery' conversation and never saw a problem without offering a resolution. Truly gem of a colleague and impactful leader!

Leading a national organization such as the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) requires adept leadership and someone who genuinely wants to do the work. That is Shayla Cannady. Most of her education and professional work has been centered in the country's third most populous state. The 22-million people in Florida represent a diverse cross-section of America, which would inform Shayla's representation of the nation's school PR leaders. Through collaboration and networking in SUNSPRA, I have come to respect Shayla's ability to navigate a wide range of personal and professional challenges. Specifically, her current work with Chiefs for Change is elevating the school PR profession and propelling more communicators to have seats at decision-making tables. That platform among the nation's top superintendents would only serve to benefit NSPRA moving forward.

Peter Toomey

Executive in Residence

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

I am pleased to give my full-throated support for Shayla Cannady for president-elect of the National School Public Relations Association.

After retiring as an executive with Duke Energy, I had the opportunity to work with Shayla at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as an executive in residence. Shayla has true wisdom about all facets of communication that I have seen her demonstrate on dozens of occasions - instinctively knowing how to get the right message across to the audience. She is also deeply knowledgeable and experienced in the fundamentals and is terrific at working with both traditional and social media.

I saw her begin with a staff at CMS that was completely new to her. She worked very quickly to organize them; she also developed her staff very well, helping them to grow into capable leaders in their own rights. Shayla is a remarkable talent who will be an enormous help to any organization that she joins.
